She was incestuous with her son, grew to hate herself for it and at one point in the book stabbed herself in her eyes with a fork to punish herself. I would like to read it as an adult but cannot remember the title or author.

Anyone know of it?denisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17885614423037543015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017393286421862632.post-13764102764794360522013-03-12T10:16:21.365-05:002013-03-12T10:16:21.365-05:00I read HOC and thought it was really wicked!I read HOC and thought it was really wicked!Suzanne G. I did a search on gothic romance and narrowed it to ebooks and got a nice list to choose from. Also, I was greatly impressed by the further breakdown of the list in the right-hand column showing the period, location, etc., which was of great interest to me. The 2-week lending period seems restrictive, as I cannot guarantee being able to read a book within 2 weeks, but I assume one can borrow the book more than once to finish it. Thanks so much for this info. I'll be passing it along!Kristihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09082677871665821984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017393286421862632.post-56251148445339339652013-03-03T13:54:31.618-06:002013-03-03T13:54:31.618-06:00Thanks for hosting me today! Thanks for hosting me today!Juli D. I was 12 and chose it from the "read-and return" rack at our local swimming pool. I had never read a book like that before and kept borrowing it over and over and over. Finally I kept it (!!) and still have it to this day. I re-read it every so often and still have yet to find another gothic that I love as much. :) A wonderful memory and a wonderful genre that I'm so glad I accidentally fell into!Amyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02256346844435603766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017393286421862632.post-31922241449348320432013-02-11T08:36:24.028-06:002013-02-11T08:36:24.028-06:00I really enjoyed the Gothic books in my younger da...I really enjoyed the Gothic books in my younger days as well, but I had no one to guide me! You are so lucky your mother was able to fill that need for you! Now with life's busy chores, I don't get to sink into of my guilty pleasures too often, but when I do, I am definitely going to pick up a Gothic novel. I was immediately hooked by the gothic atmosphere, Holt's writing style, the enigmatic hero, and the life-threatening events that befell the heroine. If anyone expresses an interest in the genre, I always recommend that book as an intro to it.Kristihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09082677871665821984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017393286421862632.post-12568426844676906942013-01-31T10:23:40.036-06:002013-01-31T10:23:40.036-06:00So far, so good, though I had a minor reading slum...So far, so good, though I had a minor reading slump beginning of the year. It means I'm indoors with more time to read gothic romances. I'm currently reading THE SHOP OF SHADES AND SECRETS, by Colleen Gleason. It is a present-day paranormal romantic suspense set mostly in an antique shop with ghostly presence, life-threatening events, and a skeleton in the closet. Hot sex, too, which is a departure from my normal fare. Another way to stay warm this cold winterm, I guess!Kristihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09082677871665821984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2017393286421862632.post-58750179899603053872012-11-23T03:56:36.193-06:002012-11-23T03:56:36.193-06:00It sounds like this book is more about horror due ...It sounds like this book is more about horror due to several reasons like the description of house etc. At the same time I agree that french is known for its characterization, this can also be seen in movies and they are really good at it.
